Clarins has created a limited edition collection of products that highlights the annatto seed and their support of the Pur Project to support Amazonian Indian communities, in particular Ashaninka where the annatto seed is traditionally used in their makeup. The Clarins The Essentials Collections features the annatto seed in their formulations as well as a depiction of the annatto flowers on the packaging.

The annatto seed is used to dye food and fabrics, and used in ritual body paint and lipstick. It is included in the eyeshadow formulation to improve comfort and in the Lip Comfort Oil to nourish and comfort the lips.

When you buy the Clarins The Essentials Palette ($62 CAD) at Hudson’s Bay and clarins.com you can support the Pur Project and plant a tree by visiting clarins.com. You’ll also receive a personalized certificate by email.

The palette includes ten rosy hued neutral shades. There is a great balance of light, medium, and dark shades as well as a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. You can create anything from a subtle everyday look to a sultry smoky eye. The palette also includes a numbered guide to a few different eye looks you can try.

The palette is reusable. Once you have finished the shadows you can pull out the removable wedge and use the case as a pencil box or for other storage.

The shimmer shadows in this palette do have varying amounts of glitter so if you are completely opposed to glitter, and prefer a more refined shimmer, this may not be the palette for you. Pigmentation overall is good, not great, but good. What makes the palette stand out is the beautiful shade offerings and how easily they work together. It is truly an all in one palette and you won’t have to reach for any other shadows to complete your look.

The Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Red Berry ($25 CAD) is available in seasonal packaging in department stores, pharmacies, and on clarins.com. If you haven’t tried these incredibly luxurious, non sticky, lip oils then now is the perfect time! Red Berry gives lips a nice subtle red glow.

I shall see if this is available in my local Hudson’s Bay stores. I like the palette’s colours.
