I’m sure you’ve seen the posts on social media. Women applying a liquid lip product and then vigorously rubbing their lips, drinking their coffee, kissing, all with ZERO color transfer. Could this sorcery really be real? Well, in a word, YES.
After dying to try these magical lip products for months I was given the opportunity to try out LipSense from Bombshell Cosmetics and discovered they are indeed worth the hype.
I have been testing out two LipSense ($25 US) shades, Apple Cider and Luv It, as well as the Moisturizing Gloss ($20 US) and the Oops Remover ($10 US).
Apple Cider is a beautiful peachy nude and Luv It is a light, bright coral. Both have a subtle shimmer too them. I think the LipSense formula will really excel with bold shades. I should have gotten a little more adventurous. But I love my nudes!
LipSense is unlike any other lip product I have tried. Truly. I have never come across anything like this. They have a very fluid, liquid texture. Not liquid like a liquid lipstick but actually a watery, liquid formula. The proper way to apply LipSense is to apply 3 light layers to clean, dry lips, allowing each layer to dry before moving onto the next. It only takes about 5 seconds for it to dry so it doesn’t take as long as it sounds. The trick to an even application is to apply in fluid, sweeping motions across the lips without lifting up the applicator or going over the same area more than once. The product appears quite sheer at first, but once you get to your third coat you have full color coverage. They have a standard doe foot applicator.
Once you have your three layers on, and they’ve set, you can apply some of the moisturizing gloss on top. The gloss is very comfy to wear and lasts for several hours. The gloss contains shea butter and vitamin E for a very moisturizing feel. You will not have to reapply the colour throughout the day. Only the gloss, for shine and comfort. Unlike other long wear lip products, even oil won’t remove these babies!
Normally that is where a long wear lipstick will meet it’s match. You eat an oily salad and it’s done. With the LipSense you can literally scrub it with cleansing oil and it doesn’t budge. Just like you may have seen on social media, you can literally rub the living crap out of your lips and this stuff will not come off. Mind blown!
So how do you get it off? You use the Oops Remover. I also found that soaking in a micelle water was quite effective as well.
Now there are some things you will want to be aware of before you jump into the LipSense experience. Depending on the dryness and condition of your lips before starting to use LipSense, you can experience anything from a mild tingling, to a more intense burning sensation. This is because the first ingredient in LipSense is SD Alcohol 40. It is an above cosmetic grade alcohol, but it’s still an alcohol, so if you apply that to broken or unhealthy skin, it’s going to hurt. For me the sensation is gone by the time I get to applying my second coat.
With LipSense they say you will go through an exfoliation process when you begin using their product. This is supposed to be the wax and lead buildup from other lip products being exfoliated from your lips. This will allow the LipsSense product to properly bond to your lips. They contain a kind of polymer which gives them the incredible adherence to the lips and all day wear. I think the exfoliation is more than likely just in response to the alcohol content. I use lip scrubs regularly and question there being any kind of long term buildup from my lip products. Regardless of the cause, the exfoliation process is temporary, and most regular LipSense users feel their lips improve using the product and better retain their proper moisture levels. I can’t attest to this because I’m not willing to part with all my other lip products. Being a beauty blogger that would be kinda hard! I still experienced full day wear time using these intermittently with my other lipsticks and glosses. If you do make the commitment and switch to using only LipSense you will experience even better performance from the products.
LipSense is available in 70 shades and they are vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, and GMO free.
They do have a kind of fruity floral scent.

Now, being the kind of consumer who reads ingredient lists, I immediately noticed that the LipSense Glossy Gloss contains beeswax. I found this odd since they explain the possible exfoliation process as being the result of getting rid of built up wax and lead residue from other products. I reached out to Lauren from Bombshell Cosmetics and here is what she had to say.
That’s a great question, and it is a question that is asked often. Senegence glosses have synthetic beeswax in them which is also the moisture content for our Lipsense colors.
You may ask Beeswax and synthetic what’s the difference? Synthetic is vegan which means it is fatty acids from non animal products, which will allow the Gloss to transfer into the lip surface bringing in moisture of Shea Butter and Vitamin E for hydration. Unlike Beeswax which has emulsifiers in them just like the wax for your vehicle or on the tops of jams and jellies to keep the moisture from getting in.
The sythentic beeswax is also used to help thicken and hold the ingredients together as well as enhance the shine and color stabilization. Plus, since it is synthetic, it will not leave the wax build up on your lips.
LipSense is a Senegence product and is sold as part of a network marketing model. I do think this is a great network marketing opportunity as you are providing a truly unique product on the market. It is a formula unlike any I’ve tried and it does live up to it’s budge proof, waterproof, kiss proof claims. Bombshell Cosmetics, owned by Lauren Williamson, sells a full range of Senegence products, including the ever popular LipSense lip colors.

Anything with Alcohol in the top 5 ingredients is not for me. Too drying. I don’t care what motor oil is going back in from the product to moisturize. And what about more alcohol to get it off? Not to mention what is the point of having dozens of lipsticks from a whole range of brands to avoid re-application? Reapply– have at it. That’s part of the fun.
Christa @PerilouslyPale says
Haha I love having dozens of lipsticks to reapply too! 😀 But these are nice handy on days you don’t want to touch up.
Alison says
Well, I totally get why you would choose the more nude colors. More practical.
Brooke @ Blushing Noir says
I really love the look of the Apple Cider! I got a dark shade off of a friend of mine (I forget the color) but I did enjoy it. It didn’t last all day on me but it was long enough. The interior part of the lip is what disappeared first. The rest stayed on well.
Christa @PerilouslyPale says
Apple Cider is super pretty. Great nude shade!
Doria Miyata Murphy says
Interesting! I’ve seen a lot of bloggers post about them, but I love how candid your review is. I questioned the claims about the initial exfoliation being build-up from other lip products as well. 😉 Gorgeous colors andI love that the wear is long!
Christa @PerilouslyPale says
They are lovely colours. Nudes are my jam. 😀
Kendra Darr says
Did you ever experience it coming partly off? Many times I’ve had it wear off where my lips touch within an hour or two of application so it looks great when my mouth is closed, but then weird when I talk or smile.
Christa @PerilouslyPale says
What do you mean? Like flaking off or wearing off in the centre of your mouth? A couple times in the beginning I had it kind of coming off funny and then I realized I was doing the layers too thick. After I corrected that it was smooth sailing!
