Forget Overwhelm and Start Transforming Your Life with These 10 Positive Habits

So many people are desperate to create transformation in their lives but feel too overwhelmed by the thought of how much they want to change. They don’t know where to start, so they never start at all. Sound familiar? I too struggled with wanting so much more from my life but I felt like I was drowning with no life preserver to grab hold of and no idea which direction to start swimming in to reach shore. Too many people believe they must move mountains to see a noticeable change in their lives but this is so far from the truth. The fact is small habits that are repeated again and again create change and momentum. It is the small actions done consistently that create big results, not the big actions you would expect.

These 10 habits don’t require much time or effort but I can promise you that they will create impressive results. It’s all about consistency and building positive daily habits.

“Making a choice that is 1 percent better or 1 percent worse seems insignificant in the moment, but over the span of moments that make up a lifetime these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be. Success is the product of daily habits–not once-in-a-lifetime transformations.”

Life changing simple positive habits

Create a plan for tomorrow before going to bed

Your best days start the night before. Have a plan for the day before you go to bed. Think about your goals and what needs to be accomplished tomorrow. Write it down and then put it aside. Bonus: this will also help you sleep better.

Make the first meal of your day a healthy one

I know, I know. You’ve heard it before. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Regardless of whether you agree it’s important to ensure that your first meal is good for you. If you start off your day with foods that are going to have your energy fluctuating all over the place you are asking for disaster. Starting off your day with foods that you know help you feel your best will help you maintain your energy and momentum through the day and encourage less cravings and healthier habits for the remainder of the day.

Tackle the least pleasant task on your to do list as soon as possible

Avoid putting off your most unpleasant tasks until the end of the day. Not only will you ruin your entire day dreading it, but you’ll also engage in more time wasting activities in your attempt to avoid it.

Avoid worrying about things that are outside of your control

If you’re going to worry, at least expend the energy on something you can influence. Then you can come up with a plan to make the situation better. If there is a situation happening in your life or in the world that you can’t control then surrender to the fact it is happening for your highest good and focus on what you can have control over by taking action.

Smile

Smiling makes you, and everyone around you, feel better. Even if you are feeling rather grumpy try smiling at the people you encounter in your day. You will brighten their day AND yours. If you are struggling to bring a smile to your face then engage in one of my favorite smile inducing activities, watching funny and cute animal videos on Facebook. Just set a time limit on it of 5 minutes so you don’t get sucked down the rabbit hole!

Be grateful

It’s easy to focus on the things you don’t have, but much more pleasant and useful to focus on the things and people you do have in your life. Feeling grateful tends to bring you more things to feel grateful for. It also makes you more effective in everything you do. My favorite way of practicing an attitude of gratitude is my gratitude journaling daily.

Meditate

With a proven array of physical and psychological benefits, meditation is a wonderful habit to develop and maintain in your life. Even just 5 minute a day can yield benefits. There are so many fun ways to try incorporating mediation in your life including apps like Calm.

Review your day

Every day, no matter how good or bad, has something to teach us. Learn something from each day. Practice reflection journaling and review your mistakes and successes each evening. Imagine if you adjusted your approach to life just the tiniest bit each and every day. It wouldn’t take long before you were living life at a whole new level.

Move

Our modern society doesn’t provide much in the way of physical exertion for most of us. If your job isn’t physically demanding, it’s important to add some exercise to your life. It’s good for your mind and body. Even just taking a 15 minute walk is beneficial. Or set a timer on your phone or watch to get up and move around every 20 minutes to avoid being completely sedentary.

Do something that brings you joy each day

Life is meant to be enjoyed. It’s so easy to run out of time in the day before you have a chance to enjoy yourself. Try to schedule at least 30 minutes to do whatever you want each day. Something for YOU.

Here’s a fact. The life you’re currently experiencing is the result of your previous and current habits. New habits lead to a new life. There are numerous simple positive habits that can create significant changes in a minimal amount of time.
