This week the Makeup Wars team is taking a look at some of our Favorite Fall Makeup Collections. I’m throwing a bit of a curveball and focusing on a collection that I am loving for Fall that is actually a Holiday 2018 Collection. Beauty collections come out months before the seasons themselves so I love when a collection works well in the season you are actually purchasing it in. Of course this collection will be beautiful for the holidays as well, but I am loving the tones in the shu uemura La Maison du Chocolat Collection for Fall!
This collection is a collaboration between shu uemura and the luxury chocolatier La Maison du Chocolat. I know the question you’re dying to ask… does this collection smell like chocolate. Why yes it does! And it smells delicious.
The collection is not just the warm browns you would be expecting from a chocolate collection. I was actually quite (pleasantly) surprised by the colour selections in the two shu uemura Ganache and Praliné Eye Palettes ($115 CAD).
The Dark Cacao palette features shades of ivory, cool brown, taupe, warm brown, and a bright gold. There are three matte shades and five shimmer and metallic shades.
The Framboise Berry palette hues of ivory, berry, rose gold, and mauve. There are again three mattes, four metallic and shimmer shades, and one glitter shade.
The shadows in these palettes are the high quality you would expect from shu uemura and they apply beautifully. My only issue with the palettes was that as someone with fair skin I found both palettes to be lacking a shade light enough to be used as a transition shade or even as a crease shade. I love that both palettes include a light matte base shade but the two other matte shades in each of the palettes are on the deeper side so just keep in mind that if you have a lighter skin tone you may need to add in a shadow from outside the palettes to make a look that works for you. If you have a medium to deep skin skintone you won’t have any trouble at all working solely from these beautiful palettes.
Shown are two of the Supreme Matte lipsticks in Deep Cranberry and Ripe Cherry and in the center a Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in Hazelnut Ganache.
These are all quite deep shades and the rich pigment applies smoothly and evenly to the lips. They also leave a nice stain on the lips so even as they wear off you retain a good amount of color. And they smell good enough to eat!
The shu uemura La Maison du Chocolat Collection also includes two shades of Shimmery Powder ($40 CAD). The Shimmery Powder is available in Luster Gold Dust and Luster Rosé Dust.
These powders are meant for use on the face. They give an absolutely stunning shimmer effect but there is no chance I would personally put something that glittery on my face. Even for the holidays. I think these would look beautiful on the eyes as you would use a loose glitter pigment though. I can’t find any evidence that these are noted as being unsafe for use on the eyes.
There is also a special edition of the best (in my opinion) eyelash curler on the market. The shu uemura Chocolate Topped Premium Curler ($25 CAD) will make an excellent holiday beauty gift. This rendition of the shu uemura eyelash curler with it’s chocolate charm is so classy.
Here is a look I created using the Framboise Berry palette and the Ripe Cherry lipstick. Perfect for fall!
What are you loving most from the collection?
