Hello!

Does Wearing Makeup Mean a Woman Is Insecure?

Makeup

April 19, 2017

“You don’t need to wear makeup. You are beautiful just the way you are.”

“You can’t be a true feminist if you wear makeup.”

“Women just wear makeup to impress men.”

“You shouldn’t feel the need to cover up your true self.”

“Women trick men by wearing makeup and making us think they are more beautiful than they really are.”

“Women who wear makeup are vain.”

I could go on, and on, and on, with all the ridiculous things that people say about women wearing makeup. But lets get one thing straight. Women do not wear makeup because they don’t love themselves, or they’re insecure. We wear makeup because we DO love ourselves, and part of loving yourself is treating yourself with love, respect, and care. Taking care of one’s appearance does not make one vain. If a women is out and about wearing a cute dress and heels do we question that? I mean we could all run around with bed head, wearing sweats and Crocs every day because that’s hella comfy and easy, but most of us enjoy looking our best. It’s a sign of self respect. Of self love. We aren’t judged for dressing “nicely” or looking put together. But for some reason there are people out there that want to judge the use of makeup as something more than what it really should be. A way to look and feel more put together, the best version of ourselves, and confident.

Anything that makes a woman feel more confident is a good thing. Whether that be a killer outfit, a polished makeup look, treating your body well with clean food and exercise. There are so many ways to boost self esteem by treating yourself well.

Makeup doesn’t hurt anyone. While the unrealistic ideals that the beauty industry propagates in our culture can indeed be very harmful, especially to youth, I feel it’s important we recognize the separation between the unattainable ideal of beauty we have in this culture, and the average woman’s love of, and use of, beauty products. Trying to shame women for wearing makeup isn’t going to change the industry or the current culture of beauty.

Because of my coloring I tend to look washed out and featureless without makeup. I prefer how I look with makeup on. That does not mean that I’m insecure or that I don’t love myself. That doesn’t make me less of a woman. The same goes for women that have no interest in wearing makeup. That doesn’t make them less professional or less feminine. We are all perfect just the way we are, and how we choose to express that is our choice. Let’s just make sure that the way we are is truly who we want to be. Because when it all comes down to it, our opinion of ourselves is the only thing that matters in the end.

What we need to be focusing on is not that women feel the need to wear makeup to feel beautiful, but rather that women feel the need to look beautiful to feel happy. Focusing on building self worth in women, and in young girls, will empower women to live a life that makes them happy. Self worth that makes them feel fulfilled on a level that will radiate beauty in a way that will change the world. It’s time to figure out what really matters to you and cultivate that joy in your life. Sharing that joy with the world is the kind of beauty that no one can deny.

All women are beautiful. No woman is perfect. Stop wasting your precious days away wishing you were someone else, and start acknowledging and embracing the amazing person that you ARE. There are so many things that make each of us beautiful inside and out. Find the things that you feel passionate about and that bring you joy. Nothing is more beautiful that someone who radiates happiness. Wake up each day with the intention of realizing the beauty all around you, and choose to live each day seeking out the beauty in everyone and everything you encounter, including yourself!

  7. I look like I’m ill without makeup lmao that being said I only wear it a few days a week and only because it’s fun for me and I do feel more beautiful. However I’m definitely not insecure. I’ll go anywhere makeup free. It just depends on how I’m feeling that day and if I’m too busy to beat my face lmao
